| Death Aboard (7.0) - File Description |
 |
Description:
From the author:
Quote: Chosen the name Death Aboard because your going to be on board of a ship. But you start out in a prison and work your way out to the nearest docks area, thereafter you get on board a stranded ship and finally to an island where there will be a lighthouse as a finale.
All maps are available in Co-op and Versus Mode, while The Ship and The Lighthouse Escape are available in Survival Mode.
First off, wow.
This map is awesome! The levels are fantastically made. Great use of prefabs and texures, the layout is both logical and good for gameplay, the custom music does wonders for the atmosphere and the environment is rich with detail.
The first 2 levels feel quite sprawling, almost non-linear. A great mix of large open areas, tight corridors and small rooms.
The third does too, but to a lesser extent (still had a scary encounter with a tank in some tight areas though!). However, the crescendo event near the end is a little too spread out, taking the intensity of it away quite a bit.
The wonkyness of the 4th is brilliantly annoying and disorientating! The level feels more linear (though thats not a bad thing). There was, however, 2 bits where I was (perhaps unnecessarily) incapped by the environment (a car and a door that spontaneously flew off its hinges). This is probably the weakest of all the levels.
The finale. I LOVE the escape vehicle! It's inspired! The sheer size of the area and the distance between the trigger and the escape point is, on one hand, great practice for L4D2 and pretty cool in its own right. But, on the other, it suffers from the same problem as the crescendo near the end of The Docks. It's not as intense as it could otherwise have been.
All in all though, this is a fantastic map and definately download worthy!
